55th Studio

It is with pleasure that N-Drive Productions has become the new home of 55th Studios, this range of models in 5.5mm to the foot (55:1) was the first commercial narrow gauge scale introduced by GEM in 1963 and later developed by Malcolm Savage and others to give a base range of kits that appeal to modellers who like something a little different and away from ready to run products. I would like to thank George Williamson for all his help with ensuring this range continues to be available.

          The scale is supported by the 5.5mm Association and new products or developments will normally appear in the quarterly journal before I get around to adding it here. At the moment all the locomotive kits are supplied with dummy chassis's to create static models but we are developing working chassis's for the current locomotives and plan to eventually add to the range mainly continuing the Welsh theme but with a few more widespread examples.

Talyllyn Railway No.2 Dolgoch

 

                                                                           The second locomotive supplied to the                                                                                        Talyllyn  Railway Dolgoch was a radical                                                                                          departure from No.1 Talyllyn, built in 1866                                                                                       again by Fletcher, Jennings and Co. it had a                                                                                   very long wheel-base and water tanks                                                                                              between the frames and behind the cab. Not                                                                                 as popular with drivers in later years                                                                                               Dolgoch was in better condition when the                                                                                       railway entered preservation and operated                                                                                     most of the services until Edward                                                                                                     Thomas arrived at the Talyllyn. It can still                   be found at the railway where it has spent all it's life.
